David Farmer was the deputy chief of staff and director of communications for Maine Governor John E. Baldacci for four years. In those roles, he led the governor's policy and communications effort, directed communications for all cabinet-level agencies, and served as a senior policy and political adviser.
He has an insider's understanding of politics and government, but also brings the experience of 17 years as a journalist. Under his leadership, Adeline Strategic Communications can help you understand the complicated arena where politics, government and the media collide.
David has an in-depth understanding of the state budget, administrative and financial affairs, and public policy development, and was the governor's liaison to numerous state and independent agencies, including the Finance Authority of Maine, MaineHousing and the State Planning Office, and to the Legislature.
In addition, David's issue portfolio also included crisis management and litigation support. As the governor's liaison to the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs and Emergency Management, he has extensive experience in dealing with communications strategies for disasters, both natural and man-made.
Before joining the Governor's Office, David was an award-winning reporter and editor in Maine, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. He is the former editorial page editor and lead government and political reporter for the Lewiston Sun Journal, and the former executive editor of a chain of six daily newspapers in Virginia and Maryland. He was also deputy editor at Roll Call, the premier political newspaper in Washington, D.C.
